Lab Technician: Role and Responsibility

Team,

Let's use this page to identify the Role and Responsibilities for a Lab Technician for CCCS. Dive in. The outline format makes it easy to edit.

Here are a few assumptions to get us started. Edit, delete, add to it.

Name, (.5 FTE), RWSL Site Lab Technician will support NANSLO Project Manager in the day-to-day tasks of maintaining RWSL lab equipment and software.

Preferred Education:

Computer science, information technology, or educational technology major

Graduate student or motivated undergraduate

Position Description:

Technically inclined and capable of taking apart and constructing complicated hardware, comfortable with (or interested in) robotics. What else?  Also, strong background in either physics or chemistry.  Even though there will be biology experiments in the mix, the more complicated apparatus will be for the physics and chemistry experiments.

Is software proficiency required? I recall hearing that CCCS has a programmer, will this person need to manage the software in any way?  Probably not.  The lab tech (or techs) will need to be able to reset the experiments in LabView so they are ready for the next group, as well as resetting/replacing various hardware, depending on the experiment.  They will also need to monitor each of the experiment nodes that are in operation and perhaps interact with the students through voice or text chat from time to time.  For example, if the light bulb burns out in the microscope stage, the tech will have to replace it and then let the students know when they can proceed.

Following the same format as other NANSLO responsibilities, we can use this for our internal purposes then reformat for Rhonda's use.
