Curriculum Design
Day-to-day work for September 2011
In the spirit of "working in the open", I will use this space to detail my day-to-day NANSLO design work for September. If the email notifications become oppressive for other users of this wiki I can take this work off-line.
Thursday September 1st:
Goal for today: create detailed workplan for the month, publish on curriculum development wiki.
Process:
- review project documents detailing what needs to be done & by when
- review upcoming project commitments & detail my responsibilities for each
- organize tasks on the wiki & publish
This is a very busy time in my 'regular' job (startup tasks for the upcoming new academic year) so NANSLO work may be a struggle for the next week or so.
Friday September 2nd:
Goal for today: rekindle panel discussion & determine what work needs to be done before status report
Process:
- summarize panel activity from the summer
- identify what remains to be done before end of Sept.
- post a 'welcome back' email to each listserv
- determine current status for status report; identify critical tasks to be done before Sept. 10
Carry-forward for next week:
- determine which chemistry lab will be used in RWSL demo at end of month
- tweak it, upload it, make it available to chemistry discipline panel people
Tuesday September 6th - Friday September 9th:
This was the first week of classes for us so I was extremely busy with COTR work. What I *did* manage to accomplish:
- summarized panel activity, posted to each listserv
- contributed info related to the objectives I'm involved in for status report
- identified the Conductivity lab for chemistry RWSL demo, reformatted it, uploaded it, & notified chemistry discipline panel people
Monday September 12th - Friday September 16th:
The second week of classes was equally busy (if not more so) with COTR work. Accomplished during this week:
- maintained contact with listserv discussions (very quiet this week)
- maintained contact with project partners generally
- discussed RWSL training plan with Albert (technical side) & Ron (delivery side)
- created a Moodle site to develop the RWSL training plan, showed Ron how to enter/edit it
... & generally tried to keep my head above water with multiple projects & the usual semester start-up issues ;-)
Monday September 19th - Friday September 23th:
The third week of classes & I'm still very busy with COTR work. Accomplished during this week:
- maintained contact with listserv discussions
- discussed workshop format, details with Catherine
- worked with Irene & Catherine to develop a more detailed template/rubric to assess individual labs for Physics
- tweaked the lab assessment template & circulated it to Chemistry & Biology facilitators too
- began presentation re Open Courses for NANSLO next week
- participated in an informal BC team meeting on Friday afternoon
Monday September 26th - Friday September 30th:
This week is dedicated to preparing the wiki & presentation for NANSLO workshop on Thurs. & Friday:
- complete PowerPoint presentation about the status of our open course development
- submit presentation to our BC partners for feedback
- upload all Chemistry documents to wiki (NOTE: still very much in draft format but participants need something to work from!)
- communicate with NANSLO partners, coordinate fine details of travel
I fly to Courteney-Comox on Wednesday; arriving at Comox airport around 1 pm on Wednesday. I'll be presenting about the NANSLO Open Courses on Thursday afternoon & assisting with the panel discussion groups as much as possible.
