Subject:
NANSLO: quick semester update and call for panel volunteers for two exciting opportunities

Greetings physics, biology, chemistry panel members,

Here’s a brief update of RWSL being used in classrooms this semester along with description of two exciting NANSLO projects you can participate in.

BCcampus RWSL

Physics students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University experienced RWSL in their class this semester.  More will have access to RWSL experiments at North Island College later this semester in Physics 101/121, Space, Science and Astronomy, and Biology.  I will share faculty and/or student feedback if available.

Colorado Community College RWSL

129 students enrolled in CCCOnline through 11 Colorado campuses will be exposed to RWSL experiments through Physics 111 and Physics 211 in the coming month.

During summer, physics, biology and chemistry students will gain access to RWSL experiments.

SEEKING YOUR PARTICIPATION…..

Do you have 30 minutes to comment on a lab report rubric between March 28 and April 11?

Volunteers are needed for comment on a draft rubric to be used in review of student lab reports. The rubric is intended to focus on student experience of RWSL and comparable experiments. We expect the rubric will include 5 dimensions and will be very simple for the faculty to review and make use of.

3-4 panel member volunteers per discipline for lab report review in summer!

There has been interest shared in the past regarding review of lab report review. Let me know if YOU are interested in signing up to review lab reports.

There will be 14 physics lab reports to review in May. After the summer session, there will be 14 more physics, biology and chemistry reports for review. I can update you on specific dates as that time draws near.  We would like to identify at least 3-4 reviewers who will review each of the  14 reports. 7 reports will be from students who used RWSL technology and 7 others will be drawn from students who performed comparable experiments using the lab kits only, or from face-to-face classes. We expect review of the reports and use of the rubric to take between 3 and 4 total hours.

Please let me know if you are available to contribute to either or both of these opportunities to participate.

Thank you!
